Worms, Desktop Computer
Coming as it did, when the PC was still struggling to assert itself as the top gaming platform, Worms was not well received by the PC press. Most grudgingly praised the gameplay, but few could forgive the rudimentary graphics, and 2D perspective. One PC reviewer slated the game and predicted that it would be a flop on all formats. That just shows what a clueless melon-farmer he is, because the game went on to be a best seller on PC, Saturn and Playstation formats. PC Worms benefits fromt he PCs keyboard control mechansim, making choosing a weapon from the huge selection on offer much easier, but the scrolling was less smooth than the Amiga version. Since this game pre-dates WIndows 95 by some time, it was a DOS game, and could only be run at the standard resolution. But this does not detract fromt he fact that Worms, on any platform (with the possible exception of Gameboy) is a superbly playable experience.

Guild WarsMMORPGs are developing fast, with new titles seeking ways to make the genre more interesting. Some of the criticism levelled at the new breed of RPG is that there isn't sufficient structure to make the games interesting. You spend hours wandering between quests, it takes an age to build up a character that isn't a total buffoon, and the attractiveness of having an online world is detracted from by...
