Homeworld, Desktop Computer
Strategy simulations have come along way in the recent past thanks to the speedy advance of the home computer and the graphics accelerators that come with them. To keep up with ongoing technological advances, Sierra have created a beautiful strategy game based in the world that is space, the final frontier. This is: Homeworld. Your past is a lie, you are surrounded in danger, and you are 35'000 light years from home. This is the weird story line you will embark on when you take control of the game. First and foremost, if you have a top end graphics card installed into your machine, it will become quickly apparent just how smooth the frame rate is, and how crisp and clean the visuals are. Within these lavish environments, you must command an entire fleet of spacecraft. You must formulate fleet formations, flight tactics and choose the most appropriate unit types if you are to stand even a chance of reaching your home planet. You will come across 16 huge missions during your long journey home, and as such, you will need to know the ins and outs of the game. Thankfully there is a tutorial to get stuck into, so at least you wont get stuck in the trial and error method of progression. With a vast space area to take charge of, lovely visuals, and an 8-player option over the Internet, Homeworld has a lot to offer. Take a look.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: LockdownA best-selling novelist whose books have been the subject of many a Hollywood blockbuster, Tom Clancy now seems to like nothing as much as the array of storytelling options offered by video games. Zoo Tycoon 2There's no denying that the park management genre is where it belongs on PC, with hi-res visuals and a point-and-click control method proving vital to the success of such a game.
