Attention Formula 1 fans, there is a new contender for the F1 crown. Formula 1 Racing Championship on the PC is easily one of the best racing games on the platform. You're on the grid, the lights are coming on, there will be a random delay of 1 to 3 seconds and then its go, go, Go! Whatever you do don't let your nerves get the better of you. Videosystem knows how to make good F1 simulation games; their F1 World Grand Prix series is acclaimed for its playability. Be warned this is no arcade racer this is a comprehensive simulation. If that sounds exactly like what you are looking for, read on. If you try to play this game with a digital controller or the keyboard, it just won't work. F1 cars are sensitive beasts with more power than a small country. Trying to tap your way around a corner will soon have you spinning off into the gravel. Analogue is the way forward, a force feedback steering wheel or an analogue controller is required. A wheel makes this game a joy to play, not an easy joy, but it's a rewarding accomplishment when you learn the cars and tracks. Darting round the circuit, putting in the fastest lap of the race, out-breaking your opponents, good speed into the next corner, going round the outside, hitting the apex perfectly, it's almost like being a real F1 driver. Graphically, F1 Racing Championship is amazing. If you have a decent graphics card you are in for a visual treat. You can set the draw distance to 1500 meters, goodbye pop-up it's been nice knowing you. The car models are made up of ridiculous amounts of polygons for the ultimate in realistic graphics. Challenging adjustable gameplay and visual splendour makes for an excellent Formula1 game.
