Cultures, Desktop Computer
Strategy games have come a long way in recent years, perhaps due to the ongoing developments and technological advances of the home computer. Most of the games within this genre tend to be a little too serious, such as the Age of Empires series, but Cultures promises to be a fun, well put together game for the PC. Cultures is all about a small group of people who set about finding pieces of a broken comet, which they believed was the sun falling out of the sky. Upon their travels in a Viking boat, they eventually come across the shores of North America, which turns out to be a rich and fertile land, so they decide to settle. This is where you come in; you must use your skills as a god to create a whole new civilisation. Beginning with just four civilians and a small amount of resources, you must give your people, jobs, supplies, and even help finding a spouse to mate with. Once mated, you will have a new child, who you can watch grow quite rapidly into a healthy adult, who will then find his/her own spouse, and so on. Once you get the ball rolling and expand deeper into the American continent, your small family will soon turn into a whole new civilisation. This is a fun game from THQ, with some great music and lovely gameplay. Fans of the genre will relish Cultures.

The ThingJohn Carpenter's 1982 representation of The Thing is extremely well known not just for its excessive gore, but for telling one hell of a frightening story. A full twenty years later, the film might not have the same impact now as it did then, but Computer Artworks and Vivendi's resurrection of The Thing for PC is likely to scare the pants off you. Set directly after the events that occur in the fi...
International Cricket Captain: The Ashes 2005Developer Childish Things' long running International Cricket Captain series is much loved by gaming cricket fans. While games like Brian Lara and EA's Cricket 200(insert year) are really skill games based on the noble sport, ICC actually lets you in to the tactical, chess-like mind games played by the world's great cricket captains. And what better time to do that, than when the nation is gripped...

BloodRayne 2Released in 2003, BloodRayne followed the antics of an ambiguous anti-hero, Agent BloodRayne. Certainly at least partially human, she was endowed with various bloodthirsty vampire-like attributes, and her status as human-hungry undead freak didn't mean she was a worse person than the Nazi baddies she was up against. Between you and us, she owed more than a little to the also red-haired, violent an...
