Project Eden, Desktop Computer
Well, it makes a change from doing another Tomb Raider game. Project Eden is the latest entry into the world of 3D adventuring from Core Design and Eidos Interactive, and aims to be a bigger game than all of Lara's efforts rolled into one. Planet-sized, you might say. Earth is severely overpopulated and it is up to you, four members of the Urban Protection Agency, to ensure the flow of peace. On arrival at one of your missions, the staff at the Real Meat factory have gone AWOL. It is here that you embark upon an adventure to expose the mysteries on your future planet. Developed across a number of platforms, the PC version is looking spectacular. There are some nice high-resolution graphics tied in with an astonishing level of detail. Much of the graphical processing power is spent on character animations, whereby the characters have recent mapping technologies, skinning techniques and morphing qualities incorporated into them. But the game surroundings are also lush, and boast vast environments that show little or no pop-up. Control plays a major part in Project Eden and the game shows some advances that Core were unable to execute properly in the Tomb Raider games. Players can now participate in the adventure in both the first and third person; the first person allowing the player to view their own feet and torso. This feature alone increases the variety in gameplay considerably. Your adventure will see you venturing into the combat genre, as well as solving puzzles and tackling the platform elements of the game. Project Eden takes everything that was lacking from the Tomb Raider games and puts them into a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

One such venture is the Civilization series. It made its first appearance way back in the mid-90s and went on to become one of the greatest strategy games of all...

X-Men 2: Wolverine's RevengeTo tie in with the release of the second X-Men film, Activision has unleashed yet another mutant beat-em-up called X-Men 2: Wolverine's Revenge. Releasing not just on the next-generation consoles, but on the dynamic PC platform as well, this is potentially the most promising of the five versions. After discovering that a deadly X-Virus has been activated within Wolverine's body, players assume the...
Star Wars Battlefront IIThe first Star Wars Battlefront followed a successful formula for LucasArts; of mimicking a popular videogame and adding Star Wars characters, storylines, locations and production values. Star Wars Galaxies was your standard MMORPG, but with the added - and not to be underestimated - attraction that you could play as a Jedi, Bounty Hunter or Wookie. In the same way, Star Wars Battlefront was a pop...
The Operative: No One Lives ForeverSome people have always maintained that the seventies would come back into fashion, but they never suspected that it would do so in the form of a video game. After Austin Powers, it seems that the age of brightly-coloured furniture and clothing is making a major come back. But for PC, it will remain in the artificial world that is “No One Lives For Ever”, a retro themed game for the mi...
Halo: Combat EvolvedFor over 18 months, Halo has been the subject of many a discussion, most often being heralded as the number one game in a growing line up of must-have Xbox exclusives. Contrary to that point, however, has always been the fact that the game would eventually make its way over to the PC, sooner or later. Well, later, as the case may be, this has now happened, thanks to the boffins at Gearbox. Halo on...
