Fans of Rugby and computer games are in for nice surprise with Rugby 2001 from Electronic Arts. In the modern age of sports titles, it seems that Rugby is an oft-neglected area, as we can only think of a handful of similar titles. Electronic Arts are changing that situation and we're pleased to tell you that even though there are few rugger games to choose from, Rugby 2001 more than makes up for this. Rugby 2001 is visually similar to the FIFA football series, but obviously with different rules. The basic premise is to score tries by planting the ball in your opponent's end of the field. The team with the most points at the end of the match wins. Sounds simple, but your opposition will be ferocious. Rugby is a violent sport with none of the massive protective gear of American Football. This is going to hurt. If you score, you then try to kick the ball between the goalposts, and over the bar, for an extra couple of points. Rugby 2001 looks and plays the part. The graphical quality depends on your PC set-up, and if you have a powerful machine, Rugby 2001 looks superb. High resolution graphic modes, motion-captured player animation and 22 players all on the pitch at the same time makes for an impressive sports title. The gameplay in Rubgy 2001 is refined and feels right. Electronic Arts have done a fantastic job on the in-game physics. If you have seen a rugby ball 'roll', you'll know that it doesn't so much roll, instead opting for random bounces. EA has managed to get this small but important detail right and that makes Rugby 2001 a more realistic title.
