Serious Sam, Desktop Computer
Serious Sam has a distinctly original approach that, while some would consider similar to Duke Nukem, is novel and frequently comical. Developed by Take 2, it's time to take a “serious” look at one of this year's not so serious games. The plotline of the game is on an epic scale. At the dawn of the 21st century, mankind uncovered a primitive but more technologically advanced race under the deserts of Africa. The discovery enabled our race to explore previously unchartered star systems and colonise on other planets. Sounds too good to be true? It is. As a consequence, the alien technology has brought about the appearance of millions of monsters, and it seems that you, the titular character, are the only one capable of saving the home planet. In typical FPS fashion, you begin the early stages of the game with only a weak pistol in a seemingly sparse environment. Soon after, you will be confronted by hordes of monsters that range from Reeban Electrofish to Sirian Werebulls. Weird!Valuable information can be gained through the destruction of these creatures and you will often be rewarded with a currency called FC. Even when playing the easiest of the game's five difficulty settings, Serious Sam poses an enormous challenge that only gets harder as you progress. This is, without a doubt, a game that is aimed towards an adult audience of FPS players. Serious Sam offers a unique playing experience that's often funny, always challenging, and consistently puzzling. Well worth it.
