Command And Conquer Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge, Desktop Computer
With every gaming genre there is at least one breakthrough game providing a benchmark in standards. With real-time strategy games, the genre has been well and truly defined by the Command and Conquer series from Westwood. With fifteen releases so far, spanning various incarnations, Command and Conquer is the best selling of all the real-time-strategy brands, releasing games on the Saturn, PlayStation, N64 and PC. Following the hugely successful Red Alert 2 in 2000, EA complements the game with the official expansion pack, Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge for PC. The Yuri's Revenge story follows on from Red Alert 2. An uncontrollable unit from Red Alert 2 has escaped the clutches of the Soviets, and has submitted his own bid for global domination using the power of his twisted mind. As the largest expansion pack in Westwood's history, players have now been given further variables to consider when playing within the realm of Red Alert 2. New allied units, Soviet units, single player and multi-player features and another hour of storytelling FMV all come as part of the Yuri's Revenge package. As usual, the gameplay is based primarily upon strategy. Command a series of 'army men' through a number of new hostile environments with minimal loss of life. You must successfully wipe the area clean of the opposition, but with limited supplies. The enemy will more often than not attack in numbers, greatly outperforming your army, at least on paper. But as long as you use initiative, make quick decisions and make few mistakes, the challenge should be manageable. As far as expansion packs go, Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge is more than adequate. There is enough additional information within the package to keep you playing Red Alert 2 for an eternity.
