Sid Meier's Sim Golf Club, Desktop Computer
Electronic Arts' Sid Meier's Sim Golf has been a long time coming. After several delays and a bit of polishing, the company's latest strategy management game has finally hit the shelves. Sim Golf is the only game of its kind in the management genre to place its players in charge of a golf resort. You begin your new-found career as CEO and resident pro of a local golf course desperately in need of attention. Using your skills as a manager, you must lure new players, both amateur and professional, to your resort. Your goal is to make lots of money and transform your creation into a classy five-star golf course complete with leisure complexes and hotels. The key to building a successful golf course lies almost exclusively with course design. Working on a grid-based playing field similar to that in the Sim City series, you must create well balanced, challenging nine and 18-hole courses to attract the locals and maybe even the international club-wielding population. But how do you know you've designed an accomplished golf course? Thankfully, Sim Golf gives you the opportunity to put your creations to the test. If you find the course enjoyable, you're onto a winner. If you find it frustrating and far too difficult, you'll need to undergo a re-design. Make sure your course is a good one before saving your game. Once you've got the ball rolling and the cash flowing, it's simply becomes a case of maintaining your empire. Make sure to add new attractions as they come along and keep the prices reasonable. You can even download characters from EA's god game The Sims for a quick round. How cool is that? At the core, Sim Golf is yet another strategy game, but it offers a level of interactivity far superior to anything that has gone before it. It's a great addition to the Sim universe that has greatly benefitted from extra development time.
