It's about this time of year that one is to expect the latest annual instalment of Electronic Arts' F1 license. Officially licensed by Formula One Administration Limited, F1 2002 on the PC features all the drivers, teams, cars and tracks from the 2002 FIA Formula One World Championship. Including the two newest teams, Toyota and Renault, F1 2002 recreates comprehensively the whole Formula One experience, giving the player the chance to compete for the illustrious F1 crown. Players can optimise the vehicle's set-up, driving style and overall general performance using detailed telemetry data, which has been designed in conjunction with Formula One experts. Graphically, the PC version shows off a range of all-new features and effects. Dynamic Weather emulates the full range of weather effects, from clear and sunny to electric storms, whilst live environment mapping calculates reflections on-the-fly to create an authentic sense of realism. Also featured are real world lighting, character animation for pit crews, race engineers and grid girls, and the addition of engine/brake temperature modelling to the physics engine. The control system implemented in F1 2002 has been modelled around that of its real-life counterpart , with Launch Control, Traction Control and Variable Level Automated Shifting present among its features. Accompanied with enhanced game controller support and Force Feedback effects, this makes for an extremely accurate portrayal of the Formula One experience.
