Mall Tycoon, Desktop Computer
Just when you thought video games had covered every possible theme and game type going, a company comes along with something to prove you wrong. Take 2's example of innovative exploration with video games has resulted in the release of a quirky little game called Mall Tycoon. For Brits that don't already know, don't care, or live in caves, the mall is the American equivalent of a shopping centre. Okay, so it's a shopping simulator. But in this case, you're not the shopper, you're the seller. In Mall Tycoon it is your responsibility to create the largest, cheapest and most successful shopping centre around. If that sounds like something of a challenge, you're in the right place. As a strategy management title, there's more to Mall Tycoon than placing a few shops in a building. Certain shops will attract certain people, so you must cater for shoppers of all types and ages. And that's before you've considered any of the finance issues. Yes, you have also been charged with maintaining the account books. If you can't turn a profit in your dream mall, then there's no point in playing. There are also several other factors that can affect the profits of your business, including scenery, layout and shop size, not to mention shoplifters and thugs. Like so many other strategy games, you need to consider every factor in the equation to gain the largest profit margin. It's very much a case of subtly altering those little features that seem so futile but are actually crucial to a successful game. There's quite a challenge waiting for you in Mall Tycoon. Take it and enjoy.
