007 NightFire, Desktop Computer
Bond is back... again. With his console appearances becoming as frequent as his encounters with beautiful accomplices in Bond films, the secret agent has no shortage of weaponry, gadgetry or charm, and he's brought it all with him for his next stand-alone adventure for PC - Nightfire. NightFire takes players higher and deeper than ever before in terms of top secret locales and gameplay. As Bond, players will operate in the high altitudes of the Austrian Alps and a zero-gravity space station as well as underwater in the South Pacific in order to defeat the evil criminal mastermind Rafael Drake, who, like almost everyone else Bond has to deal with, is bent on ruling the world. Fundamentally, Nightfire is a first-person affair, with gameplay moving at a brisk pace, incorporating action and stealth elements of play and a typically smooth, suave narrative. Undeniably, the game, particularly as a first-person shooter, is best suited to the mouse and keyboard controls of the PC hardware. Players have more freedom to realise their role in the new Bond world and aren't restricted by slow rotation or uncooperative crosshairs. Each of the exotic locations around the world and beyond contain a generous offering of challenging missions and objectives. Moreover, players have the option to upgrade many of the numerous Q-lab gadgets, which we all agree is the best thing about Bond. Staying true to the Bond license, there are also a number of driving-based missions, so players get the chance to experience a range of exotic cars. With the elementary addition of a hardcore multi-player mode, 007 Nightfire represents a fine addition to the Bond range of games. Have Eurocom reached the precedent set by Rare's Goldeneye? Play it and see.

Far CryIt's highly likely that 2004 is going to go down in video game history as the year of the first-person shooter, thanks to the release of two of the most important such games of all time, Half-Life 2 and Doom III (should the former ever actually make it onto the shelves!). Well that statement can only be compounded by this latest Ubisoft release, as, well before the release of either games - and al...
