NHL Eastside Hockey Manager, Desktop Computer
With the Championship Manager series now fully in the hands of Eidos, it appears that the original developer, Sports Interactive, is finally moving on to pastures new with the release of this latest management sim published by Sega. NHL Eastside Hockey Manager, as you will no doubt be aware, is all about ice hockey. It's also all about management, and, considering SI's 15 years experience in this area, it's pretty serious stuff. In true CM vein, Eastside Hockey Manager sees you take complete control of your favourite ice hockey team (or, for that matter, one of hundreds of others from around the world), charged with the usual task of starting at the bottom and working your way up to international glory. Along the way, you get to try your hand at all the usual management duties, such as building and shaping your roster, signing free agents and drafting promising youngsters, as well as indulging in all the day-to-day affairs such as selecting your team, setting up practice schedules, selecting tactics, and re-negotiating contracts. And there are also some of the more glamorous aspects to enjoy too, like scouting players from around the world and interacting with your current stars and the media in order to appease the fans and the owners. At the heart of the action lies a detailed and realistic in-game engine, which simulates the hockey matches through a physics-based model that details individual player actions. Ultimately, this allows you to see the game's events unfold in the form of play-by-play commentary, whilst also providing a wide range of statistics from which you can analyze your team's performance. Other features throughout Eastside Hockey Manager include a detailed transfer system that enables you to buy, trade and select players; a complex player personality system that determines how individual players feel and play each match; plus the inclusion of a database of 1,000 teams and over 10,000 players. If you've ever played Championship Manager before, you'll know what to expect here - management sims don't get any more in-depth than this.
