Dropping players in at the very bottom, in the realms of obscurity (a team like Scarborough, for example) the game challenges you to take your team up through the ranks of the Nationwide League, the Premiership, and into Europe, the ultimate goal being to eventually manage a Champions League winning side. Now this is obviously the principal aspiration of all football teams; it's just slightly more likely to happen with Four Four Two on your PC than it is for your average Nationwide Conference team in real life (a team like Scarborough, for example. Sorry Scarborough). A whole host of features can be found throughout the game. 21 leagues, 10 countries and accurate player stats from Touch-Line Data make for an authentic international soccer scenario, which includes all relevant cup competitions and correct graphical representations of all the players. Also a nice touch is the multiplayer option. This allows the armchair pundit to really stake his claim as the king of managers, by putting him up against up to three friends. It seems that Four Four Two is a football management game designed for football fans, as opposed to a football management game designed for football management game fans.
