Featuring a flare-flapping four titles from the impressive music-by-numbers eJay range, this latest compilation from Empire is a steal at under 15 quid. In fact, for the price of a chart-topping CD you could buy this set of seven CDs, featuring everything you need to bash out some killer tunes of your own. And what's more, they'll most probably sound a whole lot better than the majority of the tuneless drivel sitting in the new release section in Woolworth's. For those of you who don't already know, eJay is a music production tool for the masses. It's amazingly simple to use and you don't need a music degree to knock out some decent sounding stuff. In fact, it could make George Dawes sound like Fat Boy Slim. The interface is straightforward, with elements borrowed from a selection of pro audio applications, the idea being to audition and then insert samples into the piece along a timeline. An absolutely massive library of different samples and loops is at your disposal, featuring drum loops, bass patterns, synth riffs, vocals, etc. - all you do is grab the ones you want, stick them in and hit play. You'll be bopping around your bedroom in no time. This particular compilation includes the following: Dance 3 Club Machine - a database of 5,000 Dance, Trance and Euro sounds Sound Collection No. 3 - 'The History of House' plus Techno, Dance and Hip Hop loops 360 Xtreme - Video archive with extreme clips from sports such as skateboarding, BMX, snowboarding, surfing and mountain biking + 4,000 Hip Hop, Alternative, Techno and Drum n' Bass samples MP3 Station Plus - a tool for getting your tunes on the net The eJay brand is extremely underrated. Since it first appeared in the 1990's, it has consistently improved, gradually approaching professional software at 50 times its price tag. Anyone who fancies a bash at cutting some grooves is strongly advised to take advantage of this compilation.
