Command & Conquer Generals: Zero Hour, Desktop Computer
Seven months on from the release of Command & Conquer Generals and the first expansion pack is already with us. As the title suggests, it's Zero Hour - time once again to embark upon the campaign to become the world's most powerful general by unleashing the absolute latest in modern weapons technology. As before, players wage a global war for control of the modern world, coming face-to-face with a selection of the most elite commanders. Zero Hour, in true expansion pack-style, brings a wealth of new missions, modes, weapons and locations to the fray, as well as the addition of new units, structures and upgrades, plus enhanced controls, Battle Honours, and a variety of new online features. Phew! There are a total of 15 new single-player missions, presenting a variety of diverse objectives. Throughout the roster of campaigns, players are charged with such tasks as destroying the US fleet in the Mediterranean, rooting out a splinter cell in Cairo, infiltrating a US intelligence building, and sending in special operatives to capture weapons of mass destruction. An all-new Generals Challenge mode allows players to control any one of nine new armies in battle against nine AI generals. The ultimate goal is to successfully make their way through all of the enemy Generals, and unlock a select number of their armies for play in Skirmish and Online modes. Three unique armies can be chosen in the game, each inspired by real world ideologies - the high-tech US force, the Chinese war machine and the resourceful Global Liberation Army. All three come with new units, structures and upgrades - for example, the GLA now has combat cycles, China has an Internet Center, and the US can make use of Hellfire Missiles and Chemical Suits. As well as this, a host of new weaponry has been thrown into the mix, designed with microwave, laser and satellite technology. Zero Hour is a welcome addition to the C&C Generals experience, breathing new life into a game that avid fans will have no doubt almost exhausted.
