Tribes: Vengeance, Desktop Computer
Though the survival of the decade-old Tribes series was thrown into doubt following the demise of Dynamix, Vivendi's acquisition of the popular shooter saw the release of a more modern sequel - Aerial Assault. And following in its wake is the highly anticipated addition to the series, Tribes Vengeance. Complete with in-depth single-player game and epic plot, this epic shooter sets itself some 200 years before the original game at a time when the war was in its infancy. What you don't know, however, is where you fit into the game's plan - that's something you'll only discover when your adventure deepens in the later stages of the massive Vengeance game world. And in addition to the FPS portion of Vengeance, there are also times when you'll be required to employ the use of jet-packs, aircraft and even skis. It's a varied and refreshing addition to a much-loved series. As a first-person shooter, Tribes has always had an emphasis on multiplayer gaming. In previous instalments it pitted players against one another in a series of practical environments, leaving only skill and cunning as the deciding factors in battles. Vengeance is very much the same, accommodating anything up to 32 players in any number of worldwide skirmishes. It's what Tribes is famous for, and Vengeance does a grand job of delivering everything fans of the series expected from this latest release. The famed Unreal game engine is responsible for bringing the Irrational Games-developed sequel to the screen, and has Vengeance looking very respectable indeed. It's smooth, fast, almost glitch-free and a pleasure to watch. All in all, Vivendi and Irrational have done the series proud.
