Alpha Black Zero - Intrepid Protocol, Desktop Computer
Most of the time, squad-based strategy games require great use of thought, planning, and the player's ability to take advantage of stealth-based gameplay. They're in-depth, involving and generally regarded as some of the best games around. And while the same is true of GMX's Alpha Black Zero, the game also delivers an action element and a greater freedom of choice without sacrificing the intelligent gameplay found in most titles of this genre. A somewhat futuristic affair, Alpha Black Zero pits players in a conflicted world, filled to the brim with hostile enemies and deadly weaponry as a team of five elite soldiers charged with restoring peace... or at least some of it. It's very typical of a squad-based shooter, but where most games of this type require gamers to proceed through a level in a very specific way, Alpha Black Zero gives players the freedom to make their own choices. Players can progress by means of stealth, or by opting for an all-out skirmish. Controlling a team of five is also made easier not just by the fact that they have their own wits about them, but also because they follow your commands to the letter. Quite simply, you can't blame your teammates for failed missions. Any mistakes made are as a result of bad commands. In addition, opponent AI is severe. Your enemies are difficult to eliminate, and will generally come down hard on you if you fail to take them out efficiently. Alpha Black Zero isn't as big a graphical achievement as, say, Halo 2 and the likes, but as a game it's as good as anything to go before it. Well worth playing.
