CyberGroove, Desktop Computer
Ever since if was first conceived, the bemani-style, dance-em-up type game has more or less been solely a PlayStation affair, leaving owners of PCs and other machines with no real option but to carry on dancing in their bedrooms, sans-dance mat, to their Jason Donovan album. Unless of course they can actually dance and therefore do so in public. But, for most of us, this is not the case, resembling something like a crippled chicken when we've had too many shandys in the local discotheque. Well thankfully that's all set to change with the release of CyberGroove - the first ever dance mat-based title of this ilk to appear on PC. If you've ever seen Konami's Dancing Stage, or indeed anything vaguely similar, you'll know what to expect here: stand on said dance mat then follow the on-screen step instructions, whilst grooving to the funky beat and trying to look like you're enjoying yourself. Not wanting to fix anything that's not broken, CyberGroove follows this formula to the last digit. There are three modes of play: your typical one and two-player options and also a mode called 'Together', which allows two would-be Travoltas to share the dance mat and play, erm, together. One player takes the front half, the other the back half and, well, if you can imagine Pan's People playing Twister you're not too far off the mark. There are a total of 16 tracks along to which you can jack your body, including a selection of old favourites, as well as some modern dance, pop and R&B tunes. More interesting, however, is the fact that if you're hooked up to the Internet then you can take advantage of the game's customisable download option to download new tracks and thus keep the game fresh and customised to your own particular tastes. If you've long been lusting after a PC dance-em-up, then your time has come. CyberGroove is just the tonic, and with a free dance mat thrown, in you can't really argue.
