Blitzkrieg: Burning Horizon, Desktop Computer
Developer Nival and publisher CDV are famed for their efforts within the RTS genre, focusing almost exclusively on combat games and strategy. 2003's Blitzkrieg was a fine example of Nival's capabilities and sold well, so an expansion pack became inevitable. And here it is, in the form of Burning Horizon. Though the original offering accurately depicted key events and battles from the Second World War, there was always room for improvement, and Burning Horizon is just that. Bringing with it a comprehensive library of genuine and historic battles, this expansion helps to complete and polish the Blitzkrieg experience. But there's more. Also included is a new General Rommel campaign, playing host to 18 brand new missions, as well as eight new stand-alone battles that bring Japan into the foray. Ardennes, Tripoli, Sicily and Normandy are just a few key battles available to the player. Add to that Zero Fighters, Blenheim Bombers, M5 Stuart's, German tanks, airborne assaults, covert ops and assassinations, and you have a genuinely accomplished and epic World War II strategy game. Most importantly, however, Burning Horizon is host to vastly improved AI routines. Enemy encounters are now more formidable than ever. They seek weak spots in your frontlines, clear minefields and are more than capable in the skies. As ever, the end result is a solid and complete RTS game that fans of the genre will no doubt fall in love with. And with Blitzkrieg 2 on the horizon, you'd best get all the practice you can.
