Cossacks Anthology, Desktop Computer
As the title suggests, this compilation is the ultimate Cossacks deal for fans of the popular RTS, offering the original European Wars game, complete with both add-on packs, The Art of War and Back to War. Cossacks uses a real-time strategy game engine to pit 16 nations against each other, forming alliances, playing one off against the other, and employing mercenaries to do their dirty work. Each country has its own individual type of fighting units, specific architecture, and economic and military strengths. Britain rules the waves, naturally - so you can choose which state to play according to your own preferences. When playing Cossacks, you will need to balance the demands of economic management with military prowess. While resource management at the micro-level is kept to a minimum, you will need to develop your community and acquire new technology in order to survive in the fast-changing post-Renaissance Europe. Among the new features of the first expansion, The Art of War, are a map editor, more nations and new ships. While many of the redesigned elements are designed to make the single player game more dynamic, additional multiplayer modes also enable players online to access statistics and historical data on their opponents, plus a player ranking system. Back to War offers new missions, countries, units, and improved AI to the proceedings. In addition, two new nations, Switzerland and Hungary, which waged war in the late Middle Ages and essentially influenced the development of European military strategies, are included.

Slipstream 5000One of the more notable titles from the early days of PC gaming, Slipstream 5000 is a fast and furious arcade racer that, although looking a bit dated by today's standards, holds some solid and addictive gameplay elements - which probably explains why it has undergone such a belated re-release on Zoo Digital's Classics budget range. Well before the likes of Wipeout and F-Zero, the game brought us ...
Alone in the Dark: The New NightmareAlone in the Dark is not the best-known video game series in the world. Fans of survival horror should sit up and take note, however. How can you not be at least seduced by the title? Originally released back in the early nineties, these games were visually simple, but posed an enormous challenge. Completing these games was no mean feat. After a quiet period in the latter half of the decade, the s...
Tribes 2It is the 40th century and the situation is critical. On the outer limits of the frontier, Wilderzone tribes compete savagely for possession of the all important new land. Tribes 2 is essentially a tribal warfare game. A new enemy has entered the fray, a genetically modified race. The stakes are at an all time high. It's time to enter the fight. Tribes 2 is the most comprehensive team-based multi-...
Disney Presents a PIXAR film: CarsTHQ knows a good thing when it sees one. Never shy of grabbing a franchise by the scruff of the neck, the publisher's assault on gaming youth continues with this admittedly adorable adaptation of Disney/Pixar's Cars, the animated full-lengther from the geniuses behind A Bug's Life and Monsters Inc. These kinds of film-to-game experiences are usually not short on laughs, and Cars is not much differ...
Need For Speed: Porsche 2000Misleading game title ahoy! Granted, in Need For Speed Porsche 2000 we find the very latest models from the German genii, gorgeous sports cars whose form has changed little through the decades, but have always remained ultimately stylish and desirable. The game title is a bit of a misnomer simply because of the sheer number of models represented. Enter the Evolution mode and you'll see just what I...
Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30June 6th 1944. It's a date that will be remembered for a long time by Europeans and American Allies alike. D-Day - or Operation Overlord - was that decisive and fiercely committed push that finally brought an end to the conflict that had all but shattered Europe over the previous five years. After delays brought about by bad weather and logistical problems, the morning of June 5th saw the final de...
