Everquest 2: Desert of Flames, Desktop Computer
Sony Online Entertainment are responsible for Everquest. Without a doubt the best known game in the MMORPG genre, EQ - as it is known to its devotees - recently became EQII. Better graphics and more intriguing storylines were the main areas in which the update thrilled its already captive audience. Now an expansion will broaden their world still further as the first expansion for EQII makes its way to PC: Everquest 2: Desert of Flames. Everquest is all about exploring, and Desert of Flames sees you make your way to the city of Maj'Dul. The Dervish city of Maj'Dul is, it won't surprise you to discover, in the desert, and this new environment is essentially a fantastical take of the stories of the Arabian Nights, that rich world that has already inspired games like the Prince of Persia series. Nothing is what it seems in the world of Everquest and you can join with other players and set out to confront the mysterious powers that be in this exciting new world. But Desert of Flames also has all new game features to surprise even the most seasoned traveller of Norrath. For example, there's the Arena, where for the first time you can do battle one-on-one with other players. You needn't do the fighting yourself - if you prefer, you can hire a champion to do the hard work for you. But if you want to get into a brawl, it's the safe place to go, as the city's magic carpet-riding police, the Sha-ir, take a dim view of disturbances of the peace. The warren-like alleys and squares of the city also lend themselves to a new way of getting around. For the first time in Everquest you can climb vertically up walls, which can help you escape from some tricky situations. And if you plan on staying long in Maj'Dul, it's worth your while ingratiating yourself with one of the three Courts that run the place. The only problem being, this will make the other two Courts distinctly hostile to you. The strange desert world is populated by new creatures, too, and is home to genies, lizardmen, velociraptors, mummies, harpies and more besides - there are 30 new creatures in all. Planning a new adventure? Then look no further than the Desert of Flames!
