Retro games, whether they date back to 8 and 16-bit console games or early arcade days, usually come highly welcomed amongst a minority of hardcore gamers who like to indulge in a little nostalgic pleasure every now and then. Packages such as Atari Anniversary Edition and the Namco Museum series have been well received. Now long-time industry giant Midway has released the ultimate collection for PC, cleverly titled Midway Arcade Treasures. One of the greatest compilations to grace current-generation hardware, Arcade Treasures boasts around two dozen arcade classics that most long-time gamers will have fond memories of. All are memorable, but several stand out as arcade legends. First there's Gauntlet, a first-class multiplayer maze game in players were confronted by endless hordes of ghosts and beasts. Then there's 720, a legendary skateboarding game that was loved by millions. Paperboy is a series that still is still around today, but the original is still recognised as the greatest outing in which players were charged with the light-hearted task of delivering newspapers around a hostile neighbourhood. And then there's Marble Madness, a game that challenged players to navigate a marble around a maze as quickly as possible. Other games in the package comprise of Spy Hunter, Defender, Joust, Rampage, Robotron, Smash TV, Joust 2, Bubbles, Road Blasters, Stargate, Moon Patrol, Blaster, Rampant, Sinister, Super Sprint, Toobin', Klax, Splat!, Satan's Hollow and Vindicators. It's undoubtedly a fine collection of games, and each of them remains identical to their original release all them years ago. Great stuff.
