The House of the Dead 2, Electronic Games
You've seen it in the arcades, now play it at home, virtually frame and pixel perfect. The fastest, goriest and most action packed twitch-game of all time. Fabulous horror, brilliant blood (sadly, it's green, not red!), gruesome gore, exploding heads... it's all here in Sega's superb first-person gun-game. If you haven't played this in the arcades, it's a first person, on-rails, 3D game in the style off Virtua Cop. But instead of hunting bad guys with guns, you are on the trail of zombies, through a twilight world. If you don't pump them full of lead quickly enough, they'll lurch towards you and begin to make a meal of you. And stopping them is no easy task, it takes more than a single round to slow down the undead, and killing them will take several well aimed shots to the head. Each level has its own boss, and these guys are extra bad. They have powerful and devastating weapons, and you can only destroy them by hitting them repeatedly in their small, and difficult to target vulnerable areas. At various stages through the game there are decisive moments, where if you do one thing, your route will go one way, and if you do another then the game progresses in a different direction. Although there are only a few such points, because you can go either way at each of them, there are numerous different ways of completing the game. Which is a good thing, because we first completed House of the Dead 2 after two days of frantic blasting. But that didn't stop us going back for more, and more. Possibly the best reason for owning a Dreamcast.

Dance: UKThe huge success of BigBen's Dance: UK games is easily comparable with the likes of Konami's massive Bemani Dancing Stage series. It's a genre that is finally living up to its potential, and as Dance: UK continues to see strong sales, the British publisher has now brought the game onto Xbox. Dance: UK follows the usual genre formula of pressing the right button - or indeed, stepping on the right p...
Cold War: Behind the Iron CurtainWe don't take much notice of politics here at SPOnG, but we do reckon that it was far more exciting when the Cold War was still one. OK, so we mostly weren't even born during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and our understanding of the situation in the 80s is informed mainly by a knowledge of Top Gun and From Russia With Love. But still, it all sounds very exciting, and aren't things simpler when the wo...
