Tokyo Highway Challenge, Electronic Games
Tokyo Highway battle is quite simply a Gran Turismo wannabe. Except rather than battle out with a fixed number of opponents on a race track, you battle all comers on the streets of Tokyo. Anyone who has dirven in Tokyo will quickly realise that this premise is preposterous, since the traffic is at logjam for 90% of the day. But the developers have carefully thinned down the traffic density for the purposes of this game. Like GT, THC offers you the choice of a huge variety of cars, however, unlike GT, they have not licenced the right to use the cars real names, so you'll recognise the Toyota MR-2 and the Honda NSX, but that's not what they're called in the game. Unlike GT's razor sharp handling the cars in THC wallow like American sedans and handle with the precision of hovercraft. Which is a shame, because the gameplay is quite entertaining. If this game had GT's engine, it would be a winner, perhaps moreso than the re-hash that is GT2.
