Tech Romancer, Electronic Games
Capcom have earned themselves a respected position within the leisure software industry, and more specifically in the ever popular beat-em-up genre. Now, new for the millennium, Tech Romancer is the next piece of beat-em-up software to arrive out of Capcom's R&D department. The word Tech plays a crucial role here since the fighters are mechanical robots, and they're big! Battles take place in huge cities which will no doubt receive a certain amount of damage along the way, but that's not your problem. Your problem is the other robot looking in your direction, and that's where the game play comes in. Each character has a vast number of moves which can be executed with relative ease. The real skill involves your ability to combine these moves in a such a way that your opposition will not return the favour. When successfully executed, the on-screen special effects can be very rewarding. There are two playing options to choose from in single player mode. You can either choose from an onslaught of robots to defeat in the simple battling mode most beat-em-up's consist of, or you can attempt story mode, which is basically the same, although a sense of direction is given through this option. Fans of the ominous Street Fighter series will probably enjoy this game more than anyone, but Tech Romancer should prove an enjoyable game for everyone.
