Spawn: In The Demon's Hand, Electronic Games

Spawn for the Dreamcast is your chance to become a part of the comic book universe created by the talented Seth McFarlane. Coming from Capcom, a company that understands how to make a successful beat-em-up, Spawn is essentially a 3D fighting game. This is closed-arena combat fighting where the rules are simple: kill or be killed. Spawn is a hard-core blast-em-up with up to 36 characters to choose from. A lot of these characters are initially locked so it is important to beat the game several times to release them. Each character has their own unique attributes and sometimes they carry weapons. There are big grippers that prefer close-combat and puny weaklings that like to gain an advantage with a gun. Spawn is best played with up to three friends. Nearly all of the game modes support four-players and there is so much fun to be had here. The computer puts up a good fight, but it just can't compete with the constantly changing tactics of real players. Whilst you are playing, various power-ups become available that can turn the battle around. These power-ups can restore your energy or improve the destructive power of your weapon. Graphically, Spawn is very pleasing, it's lost none of its sparkle vis-a-vis the conversion from arcade. The level design is quite ingenious with some of the later levels concealing some sweet vantage points. There are secret areas to be discovered so keep your eyes peeled for them. Overall, Spawn is a good multi-player game that is easy to learn but will take some time to master.
