ESPN International Winter Sports 2002, Electronic Games
Early 2002, and the publicity surrounding the soon come 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City grows daily. As usual, some publishers are not going to let the games go unnoticed, and Konami's contribution is ESPN International Winter Games for Game Boy Advance. As the first Winter Games title for the GBA, Konami has pulled out all the stops to ensure this is worth your while. Aesthetically, ESPN Winter Games is very pleasing. It's well presented, with simple but stylish menus and lovely graphics. Despite the lack of a third dimension, the game looks spookily realistic. The animation of the characters is done beautifully and negotiating slaloms and ski-jumps is a fluid process. Some games are very much reaction-based, keeping the players on their toes, while others, such as figure skating, incorporate Konami's well known rhythm style gameplay that can be seen in their dance games. All the events combined allow for a completely diverse playing experience, and ultimately, ESPN Winter Games' lack of repetitiveness is what makes it a great game. Well worth spending time on.
