Bomberman Max 2: Blue Advance, Electronic Games
In a similar style to the GBA's Pokemon games, this latest Bomberman title is released alongside an almost identical yet differently coloured version of the game. The difference? In this version you get to play through as Bomberman, whereas the Red iteration sees you take on the role of Max. The story behind it all takes place in Bomber Base, Planet Bomber, which is the location where Bomberman and Max are assigned to protect the peace in the universe. However, one day, the HIGE HIGE bandits, led by the evil Mujoe, shrink Bomberman and Max to the size of ants using their secret weapon, The Mini-Mini Device. In order for Bomberman and Max to return to their normal size, they must destroy the Mini-Mini Device, which leads us conveniently to beginning of this latest explosive adventure. The gameplay remains true to its 14 year old roots, presenting players with a mass of increasingly difficult areas (80 in all) to play through. In each case you're armed with the all-important bombs that must be strategically placed in order to wipe out the hordes of nasties. The Bomberman series has always shone brightest in multiplayer mode though and it's also here where the Max 2 games are at their best. Using just one cartridge, up to four GBAs can be linked together, making for some great old school ballistic skirmishes. Also, if you're lucky enough to be able to link both the Blue and Red games, you can unlock some 20 hidden areas, as well as gain access to one of eight multi-player mini-games.
