Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, Electronic Games
The Castlevania series is one of Konami's longest-running franchises and recounts the ongoing battle between the Belmont family and Dracula's vampiric army. Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance sees the baton passed to a new hero, with 18-year-old Juste Belmont entering the castle of the legendary vampire Count some fifty years after his predecessor Simon Belmont apparently ended Dracula's reign of terror. As Juste searches for a missing friend, he is armed with Simon's trusty whip and must also master the magical powers he has inherited though his noble bloodline. What follows is a breathtaking platform game, wherein players guide Juste through Dracula's sprawling castle in search of his missing friend. During the course of the adventure, over 80 species of adversary must be defeated, while Juste must also locate 12 relics that will endow him with the skills needed to face Dracula himself. Juste must also maximise his spell-casting abilities and Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance benefits from the widest range of spells in the history of the series. Five spell books must be collected to summon the elemental forces of Fire, Ice, Wind, Lightning and Summoning, and can be used in conjunction with any weapons Juste has to hand to conjure a series of devastating attacks. The young hero can also bolster his abilities by collecting gold and trading it in for bigger and better weapons, while successfully defeating the castle's many inhuman denizens rewards him with experience points that are used to enhance his magical and physical attributes. Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance marks a huge step forward for the well loved series. Creator Koji Igarashi and artist Ayami Kojima have produced a stunning title that mixes platform gaming and spell-casting with aplomb, with the game's many levels enjoying a level of detail unseen on the Game Boy Advance. The 64 MB cartridge features a new Quick Save mode wherein the action can be stopped at any point, which is facilitated by the game's battery back-up capabilities.
