Medal of Honor: Infiltrator, Electronic Games

Medal of Honor is quickly becoming one of the industry's greatest and most venerable series of games, having made nearly a dozen appearances across several platforms. 2003 saw the release of Rising Sun for current generation consoles and immediately stole the number one spot in the charts. And to coincide with such a release, the software giant has also released Medal of Honor: Infiltrator for Game Boy Advance. EA's first Medal of Honor game for Nintendo's handheld - Underground - received a mixed response, with some criticising its ability to perform as a first-person shooter on such a limited 3D platform. But this time around, all has changed, and EA has opted in favour of an old-school top-down scrolling shooter, a la Chaos Engine and Time Soldiers. The adventure, which covers further aspects of the Second World War, is spread across five main missions that span some 15 levels of both stealth and shooting action. Though the game does offer several first-person aspects in which players get to shoot projectiles at enemies from within a heavily equipped tank, the majority of Infiltrator is played as a top-down shooter that is split into two distinct playing styles. The all out shoot-fest is the most vital aspect of the game in which players are armed with two weapons and limited ammo, with which they must dispose of oncoming enemies in classic 8 and 16-bit gameplay. The other side of Infiltrator encourages stealth. Several missions must be approached with care if the player is to escape unscathed. Getting in your enemy's line of sight or accidentally firing your weapon can alert an unpleasant horde of troops. The trick is to sneak up behind your unwitting foes and give them a swift knock on the head, rendering them unconscious. Infiltrator is based on real-life events from a bloody war, but as a game, it's an entertaining adventure that Medal of Honor fans and old school gamers alike are going to love.
