Ford Racing Evolution, Electronic Games
To some, the prospect of Ford Racing will be as exciting Girl Fighting. Wait, bad analogy. Everyone wants to play Girl Fighting. And Girl Fighting II: Bikini Evolution. Anyway, the prospect of taking a 1.8 Mondeo for a spin is less than appealing to race fans spoiled rotten by the exploits of genre-beating Polyphony Digital. However, to some, Ford Racing Evolution is an amazing prospect. Ford has legions of dedicated fans around the world. From the Mustang to the humble Fiesta RS 1800, owners' clubs and appreciation societies flock together to marvel at the engineering of Ford, the company that launched the Cortina all those years ago. Coming with a heavy American twist, Ford Racing looks to cater for the needs of Ford fans, and does so perfectly. With 32 cars, including the Ford GT, The New 2004 F-150, SVT Lightning, SVT Mustang Cobra, 2002 Thunderbird, Mustang Mach III, Gran Torino, 1955 Thunderbird, 1971 Mustang, Focus Rally, and 49 Coupe, an eclectic mixture is on offer. Developer Razorworks has also implemented the ability to pit different generations of the same car in one race, enabling players to enjoy the handling and performance improvements offered by time and science. Ford Racing Evolution is a pretty serious simulator and achieves its goal admirably. In addition to the standard racing, a Gran Turismo-inspired Challenge Mode brings a level of discipline to the game you might find surprising. A driving skills challenge is in place, seeing competitions in drifting, following the racing line and so on, delivering a quality gaming experience that Ford fans and racing game enthusiasts alike will enjoy. The development team has also spent a considerable amount of time ensuring that the AI routines, physics and handling are up to scratch and this is evident from the outset. The arcade-style handling of the earlier builds has been replaced with a much tighter, less forgiving mechanic that again will please race game fans. Ford Racing isn't Gran Turismo. But it's not Max Power Racing either. A solid game, well crafted and worth a look to anyone wanting to bridge the gap before GT4 hits in April 2004.

CSI: Crime Scene InvestigationRarely seen since the days of the text based-adventure, investigate-em-ups such as The X-Files for PC quickly became notorious as some of the hardest games ever to appear on the shelves. But despite sometimes being a little frustrating, they are stimulating and ultimately enjoyable, so it surprises us that there aren't very many of them around. Nevertheless, there is a new one for PC - it's from U...

The Simpsons: Road RageThe Simpson's Road Rage is the comedy racing game to wow Xbox-owning driving fans. Let's be honest, this is essentially a cosmetic variation of Sega's hit arcade game Crazy Taxi, but with the Simpsons in the driving seat. There's nothing wrong with that, because when you take a successful formula and add the Simpsons, you're onto a winner. The evil Mr. Burns is up to no good. He's purchased the Sp...
