Kao the Kangaroo Round 2, Electronic Games
2001 saw the release of Kao the Kangaroo on Dreamcast and PC, a platformer in which a loveable Kangaroo is taken from his home land and must jump and box his way back to his antipodean home. Now the Kangaroo who wears shoes, shorts and boxing gloves is back. This time his animal chums have been kidnapped by the evil hunter Barnaba, and Kao is the only one who can rescue them. Players can follow Kao through 20 colourful levels, as he tries to get to Barnaba's island hideout. Starting in the green safety of Beaver Forest, Kao gets to ride a snowboard, race in speedboats, practice shooting, uncover secret areas and fly on the back of a pelican in this exciting adventure. Captured by Hunter himself, Kao must first escape, then set off in hot pursuit of his abducted friends, aided in his quest by a cute gang of chums. Parrot and Gloworm provide information on what he needs to do next. Then there are the beavers, who at the start of the adventure teach him vital new skills. The aforementioned Pelican is only too happy to fly him across the ocean to the island where the cruel hunter keeps and trades his poached animals. The odds are stacked against Kao, too. Barnaba is aided by his goons, the Bossmen, and pirates, gnomes, fishermen, and the sinister Magician, so the Kangaroo needs to take advantage of dynamic objects such as speedboats, catapults and boomerangs. A fun platformer that looks to improve greatly on its quite humble predecessor, Kao the Kangaroo Round 2 has platform appeal in spades.
