Greg Hastings' Tournament Paintball, Electronic Games
Nobody, surely, would deny that the FPS genre represents an exciting and addictive style of video game. But in an increasingly violent world, some people might be tiring of the blood, guts, explosions and death animations that fill each new FPS released. Perhaps, now, a solution for the more lily-livered amongst us is finally available in the shape of Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball for Xbox. Real-life paintball is all very well but it's expensive, painful, and frequently cold and muddy, and it's hard to see anything once your mask gets steamed up. This sim aims to deliver an experience as close to the modern sport of paintball as possible. Not only does the esteemed Greg Hastings himself appear in game, 14 real-life players also make an appearance. Real tournament locations and 25 official sponsors add extra colour too. The single player game features 19 tournaments to enter with 98 different field layouts. Advancing from rookie to amateur to pro, you can amass experience points as you compete against 80 teams, 69 of whom are real-life teams! There are three game types: Capture the Flag, Elimination and Centre Flag, and if you're worried that you won't be able to cheat, not a bit of it: the game features a 'Cheat Meter', and players can try to wipe off that paint before anyone sees. This being an Xbox game, it's fully compatible with Live! with voice communication and the power to play with up to seven people of either side. 20 unique locations, with 179 different layouts, will give the title plenty of longevity too. Paintball and gore-weary FPS fans alike might want to look to this for some light relief.

Panzer Dragoon OrtaPanzer Dragoon was the main reason the Sega Saturn was much-loved, at least from a first party perspective. As the 3D era dawned, Panzer Dragoon ignored the rules, and went fully three dimensional, albeit with a 2D game engine. The original games, perfectly complimented by PD Saga, an RPG which now commands terrific prices in the vintage market, are amongst the best-loved Sega has ever produced. H...
TOCA Race DriverThe end of any summer is always a bit of a bummer, but come the close of August 2002, PS2-owning race car fans really had something to smile about with the arrival of ToCA Race Driver. The first ToCA title to appear on a next-gen console, ToCA Race Driver had a ready-made audience waiting - the same audience (apart from the fools who decided against a PS2) who had stayed with the ToCA series throu...
Harry Potter and the Goblet of FireIt's quite interesting watching the people who have created the Harry Potter machine labour on with a touch of discernible fatigue. It's well publicised that even the boy wizard's creator has tired a little of her magical child - now J.K. Rowling is already set up for life she might be wishing she'd planned for a four book series rather than a seven book one. Then there's Warner Brothers, painfull...
MTV Music Generator 3Though music games and utilities aren't a new concept in video games, the genre has been in the background with regard to mainstream gaming for so long that when Codemasters released Music in 1998, it was considered original, fresh and sold very well indeed. Music creation utilities and games were brought right back into the fray. These games are now quite prolific, but Codemasters still has the e...
Metal DungeonFuture Earth, and man and machine have become one in this RPG combat game. There's a Metal Dungeon below, and its inhabitants are none too pleased with their living conditions.
