Trauma Center: Under the Knife, Electronic Games
It's time for virtual surgeons and DS owners to scrub up and get down the theatre for some serious operating, as the Trauma Center cartridge is carefully removed from its case. One of the more novel concepts for the DS (and a game that could really only feature on Nintendo's handheld) Trauma Center puts you in the sterilised shoes of rookie doctor Derek Stiles. The game's storyline reveals Stiles as something of an outstanding operator, as he truly has a healing touch - but only with the help of your steady hand. In Trauma Center's Story Mode, Stiles must complete different operations a selection of instruments to prove themselves a miracle doctor. Players can also unlock many secret missions by completing surgery with speed and proficiency. Every operation in Trauma Center has to be performed within a strict time limit. The condition of the patient must also be monitored at the same time. Using the DS touch-screen, players are put in the heart of the action carrying out surgery using the stylus on the lower screen. The touch-screen not only displays the area of surgery, but also displays all the tools for the job including scalpels, tweezers, sutures, lasers and more. This user interface allows players to quickly select the correct tools for the job and adds realism by making the player use each individual item. The top screen is used to display vital hints and tips from colleagues, the time remaining and the all-important number of mistakes made. Our collective red nose started to shine when Trauma Center wheeled into the theatre. It's an attention-grabber right from the outset, make no bones about it.
