SWIV, Nintendo Gameboy
The classic 2D arcade game, although now a little aged, is still a desirable genre even in the 21st century. More importantly, titles like 1942 and other games in the top-down shooting perspective were among the most popular. Because of the GameBoy Color's limited 2D technologies, the platform is almost perfectly suited to games of this type, and as such, SCi has produced SWIV. To begin with, the plot line for such a simple game is actually quite diverse and involving. A mysterious race originating from the mid-Atlantic has developed a world class military force. Concerned of the risk of a forthcoming World War, your task is to destroy the threat. What's more, it's as challenging as it sounds. When beginning a game you will have the choice to control either a chopper or a tank. Strangely, both handle identically, and as such, this option has literally no effect on the outcome of the game or any of its difficulty settings. You goal within each stage is simple, to reach the end of the level and defeat each end-of-level boss without losing all your lives. Your journeys will take you across locations such as deserts, jungles and volcanoes, where you will be confronted with some of the most intimidating ammunition known to mankind. While SWIV does not pride itself on graphical prowess, is has many great features that contribute to the overall challenge of the game. Completing the game will seem an impossible task to begin with, but with addiction and practice you should find yourself a saviour of the planet in no time.
