Apocalypse, Sony Playstation
Here's your chance to be Bruce Wilis, just put on a soiled white vest, arm yourself to the teeth, pick up your joypad and sit back and enjoy Apocalypse. In this game, you get to run, jump, somersault and shoot like Bruce himself, in a game that reeks of a film conversion, but isn't. Typically, the only time a big-name Hollywood star like Willis attaches his name to a game is when it's all part of the movie merchandinsing machine. Even then, the stars usually want as little to do with the game as possible. But Brucie, always one of the coolest superstars, went against the grain and got involved with the produiction of this film tie in without a film. As a result you get treated to a whole raft of his droll observations and wisecracks as you cheat death in this otherwise standard, but entertaining run jump and shoot 'em up. There's nothing astonding about this title. The sound and visuals are solid PSX standard, Butt he camera andgle and point of view is unusally 'distant' for this type of game, so you get to see a lot of the level, while your character is quite small on screen. And the camera, rather than being over the shoulder often assumes a floating thrid person perspective. This works well, giving you an extended view of the level, which will be required for you to deafeat some of the enemies, who'll shoot at you from a long range. The gameplay of Apocalypse, however, is extremely addictive, and the levels well desiged, so you'll keep coming back for more. The game is from Tony Hawk developers Neversoft so you know what kind of quality to expect.
