When it comes to sports titles, Electronic Arts covers most of the popular games with no little aplomb. Baseball, American Football, Ice Hockey: you name it, EA have probably already done it. And if they haven't done it, it's either in the pipeline or not worth bothering with. Their basketball games have always been worth a close look and NBA Live 2000 is no exception. Earlier versions of the PSX version, dating all the way back to 1996 were always hugely enjoyable to play, and the refinements in each year's update means that by NBA Live 2000, fans of the genre should be in for a treat, right? Right! The first thing that strikes you about this game is, despite the wordy content of the manual, it's so easy to pick up and play. Even for those not entirely familiar with the rules of basketball, getting into an exhibition game or a full season is easy. The controls, once committed to memory, are intuitive, and while the opposing team won't always let you pass or shoot when you would like to, use some deft finger movements to duck and weave your way through, and you'll be scoring baskets in no time. As is usually the case with EA Sports, there are game modes galore for you to explore: Exhibition, Season, Shoot-Outs, Play-Offs, Practice, the lot. NBA Live 2000 is also graced with the presence of Michael Jordan, so you can go 'one-on-one' with arguably the best, if not the most famous contemporary basketball star. NBA Live 2000 is as good as it gets for the basketball-loving PlayStation owner and its re-release on EA's Classic range should really tempt your hard-earned out from your wallet.
