Blade, Sony Playstation
A soul in eternal torment and a deathless existence surely means that being a half-human, half-vampire type creature must be a bit of a drag. D from the film and game Vampire Hunter D never looked too happy and neither did Wesley Snipes in the 1998 blockbuster movie Blade. The film was atmospheric to the extreme, with dark otherworldly undertones that captured a cult following around the world and the PlayStation version has recreated this faithfully. The game plays as a free-roaming mission based 'kill 'em up' with the Wesley Snipes titular character controlled by the player. At Blade's disposal, aside from his deadly fighting techniques, is a huge arsenal of firearms including Quake style chain guns and army issue assault rifles. Blade has a Soul Reaver/Fighting Force feel to it as far as combat is concerned. You have to be extra-vigilant when stalking around the claustrophobic, dimly lit buildings, searching for the fourteen glyphs that contain the power of the evil vampires that murdered Blade's mother. One of the truly unique features of Blade from Activision is the way the game identifies Blade's enemies as human or vampire. If the encountered foe is human, conventional methods of killing can be applied to see them off. If the enemy is a vampire however, things are very much different and silver daggers, from where Blade takes his name can be used. Or just save those valuable bullets and beat up the bloodsucking fiend! If you liked the movie, which of course the game's plot follows closely, or have a passion for all things dark and sinister, Blade could be the one you're looking for.

Crash Nitro KartSomething of a Mario Kart clone, 1999's Crash Team Racing was one of PlayStation's final major releases, appearing just a year before PS2 was released. It does look a little dated by today's standards, so Vicarious Visions came up with the bright idea to develop a karting sequel for PlayStation 2, ingeniously named Crash Nitro Kart. Dragging the karting spin-off into the next generation, Crash Nit...
