4x4 Evolution, Sony Playstation
Although games like Gran Turismo and Ridge Racer have proved to be some of the most popular racing games created, off-road racing can be just as much, if not more fun. 4x4 Evolution recognises this, and showcases just what off-road racing is all about. Virtual drivers choose their own path as they begin with a base truck and compete in a series of off-road races to win cash, allowing them to customise and upgrade their SUV. Drivers can stop and rewind the action through a playback feature and can view the whole race again from multiple camera angles, and even different racers' perspectives. 4x4 Evolution challenges you to some of the most intense racing you will ever encounter. Choose your favourite Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) from over 70 fully licensed vehicles and prepare to scream your way through 15 hardcore off-road courses, each with their own very distinctive design, music score and difficulty levels. Taking the term “off-road” to the extreme, gamers can drive anywhere within each of the vast areas which replicate zones from painted deserts through treacherous mountaintops to tropical island chains. Drivers can customise their racing environment to a high level, altering weather conditions, time of day and location. With its incredibly fluid 'go anywhere' game engine, bone-rattling tracks and a variety of vehicles and courses, 4x4 Evolution takes off road racing to the next level. And as one of the first games of its kind for PlayStation 2, it looks lovely and plays extremely well when playing using both analogue sticks.
