7 Blades, Sony Playstation
Konami's role-playing efforts have been given a warm reception in the past. Games like Goemon and Vandal Hearts have proved Konami's abilities to tell an intriguing story and combine it with intense, thought-provoking battles. 7 Blades on PlayStation 2 is their latest attempt and it looks fantastic. Taking place in 18th century Japan on the island of Dejima, 7 Blades tells a story of mystery, terror, life, death and, yes, love. Following some questionable mysteries on the island, many samurai have been called to investigate. None have returned from their missions. To find out what's going on, play the game, we're not going to spoil it for you. The game has been rendered in full 3D, as you would expect, and boasts a variety of lovely graphical touches. These include light sourced polygons, some fantastic textures and attention to detail, and some truly stunning magical effects reminiscent of those seen in the Final Fantasy games. Visuals aside, the gameplay is more focused towards action and less towards storytelling and dialogue. Featuring lots of hack 'n' slash action, players can participate as one of two unique characters, each with very different sets of abilities. Many stages of this game see the enemy attacking in numbers, forcing the player to think quickly and act even faster. 7 Blades is effectively two different stories in one, giving considerable replay value to the game. Play with one character, then play with the other. Either way, you'll find 7 Blades thoroughly enjoyable.

Centre Court: Hard Hitter 2Midas' Centre Court: Hard Hitter was the first tennis game to appear on PlayStation 2. That was late 2001, and its sequel has now emerged from the dev studios and onto the shelves for another bout of unofficial lobs, volleys and rallies. Devoid of official licenses, likenesses and sponsors, Hard Hitter 2 remains very similar to its predecessor, and as such, most of the production time has been spe...
Pro Evolution Soccer 5With the same intense gameplay of its bigger console brothers (but minus the Konami Cup competition and - crucially - no Master League)) PES5 makes a belated appearance on PSP. The good news is that it looks every bit as good as you would hope - even as good as the Xbox version. Unfortunately for those of us with Dual Shockpad-shaped grip, these players take as much getting under control as a Turk...
Lego RacersThe Lego franchise has been a popular one right from the word go. They have shown children just how much you can do with a couple of building blocks. Not content with having conquered the toy world, Lego decided to put it on them selves to make an interactive racing game for all major platforms, including PlayStation. This is - Lego Racers! Sharing a few similarities with Nintendo classic, Mario K...
SyberiaIn an era where 2D games are frowned upon in favour of 3D polygonal splendour, Syberia proves there's still life in the old school point-and-click genre yet, bringing with it high resolution backdrops some of the smoothest gameplay seen for the PS2. The story casts the player as lawyer Kate Walker, who, on behalf of the Universal Toy Company, travels to the French Alps to negotiate the take-over o...
