Some might say that the best way to see the sights of London is from the top of a double -decker, open-topped bus. After a few plays of London Racer you might change your mind. After all, your PlayStation is twice as fast and only half as smelly as a big red bus. Plus there's the added bonus of breathing clean air as you're racing around: something you definitely couldn't do if you were in the capital. There are three modes of play in London Racer - Time Trial, Sunday Cup and Tournament - and all of them are as tough as your average East End mother-loving gangster. There are also three leagues of cars, from small city cars to high-powered sports cars. You of course start out with the smallest of small cars, the Mini, and battle it out against a field of Swiss/German built Smart cars on the dreaded M25. As you progress through the various races, and hopefully win some prize money, upgrades and more powerful cars can be acquired to leave the competition trailing in your wake. Not strictly limited to the city of London, this game allows you to race to Oxford and back, and all points in between. The scenery is well re-created and, without wanting to alienate any non-Anglo-Saxon types, makes one proud to come from such a green and pleasant land. There's a lot of love gone into London Racer and it shows. It's a neat little game to look at, and a real tough nut to crack once the traffic builds up and the police are on your tail. Boy-racer type fun guaranteed.
