Egypt 2: The Heliopolis Prophecy, Sony Playstation
Plague, disease, people living in fear, and a city in ruins. Good evening Cardiff! Not quite. This game is set half the world away and in the year 1350BC (Before Cardiff). Video games that plunder the history books for inspiration are becoming more and more popular. Perhaps it's the allure of rewriting history that makes them so appealing, but these games would have limited charm if they weren't based on real events. Egypt 2 claims to be the most historically accurate game around. After all, they've got the experts in. Read on. 1350BC, and The City of Sun, Heliopolis, is set to become one of Egypt's largest and most successful cities. That is, until a plague threatens to destroy the city. Knowledge of medicine is scarce in these times, so the prospects for the city look bleak. It is at this point that you start to use your resources to aid the city of Heliopolis. The game is a thought-provoking experience, and involves hours of research to progress to the end of the game. Thankfully, the detailed environments and non-playable characters are oozing with character and personality. In fact, Cryo wanted this game to be so accurate that they brought in two consultants to confirm the historical accuracy of the game and its storyline. Wow. Egypt 2: The Heliopolis Prophecy is totally engrossing, and the gameplay is balanced and fluid. It really is like living in another time, another place.
