World Destruction League: Thunder Tanks, Sony Playstation
Blimey! Talk about over the top? WDL Thunder Tanks is a loud, lairy and frankly ludicrous entry into the arena marked 'Demolition Derby and Wrestling Fans Welcome'. Brimful of the bombast you would expect from the television spectacular-style introduction, WDL is as macho as games come. Not content with some cigar-chewing military type brandishing a huge weapon? Just put him in a tank with a suitably tough name such as Rhino or Scorcher laden with flame throwers and guided missiles and you can search and destroy to your heart's content. It seems that the most popular pastime for your 'not too distant future average Friday night American TV audience' is tuning into Thunder Tanks and watching these warriors of the wastelands reach new heights of destruction. WDL gives the player the opportunity to create the mayhem and carnage that the mythical no-brainer sofa surfers enjoy so much. Unless you are totally deluded, you'll realise that there is no-one watching you leave a trail of devastation in your wake, but don't let that spoil the fun. WDL has Tournament, Death Match, Capture the Flag and Frenzy modes for you to try your hand at, and some absolutely bonkers combat action. The action is not quite as worldwide as you may expect given the title of the game, and the locations are hardly recognisable, but it really doesn't matter. World Destruction League Thunder Tanks presents no airs and graces. Incarcerated pyromaniacs, joyriders and vandalism fantasists will have a (wrecking) ball.
