Amerzone, Sony Playstation
The point-and-click genre has been regarded by many as a type of game that is primarily PC-based. Up until recently this was the case, but as the industry becomes more and more versatile, cross-pollination of game genres and platforms is becoming more widespread. Amerzone, a game that has almost gone unheard of among the platform's 1000+ games, incorporates the point-and-click genre into its adventure quite carefully. After an animated video sequence, introducing the dark and eerie plot of the game, you find yourself on a bike on a path that leads to a sinister-looking light house. Although Amerzone consists of pre rendered images, they have been wrapped around the player to give the impression of 360 degree vision and it does so quite well. Lens distortion is also a well-implemented feature. Because of memory limitations the game spans across 2 discs, although this does mean you will find yourself visiting hundreds of locations and meeting plenty of characters. In terms of gameplay, you will soon get the feeling that you're in a scene from a Sherlock Holmes adventure, since you will spend most of your playing time looking for clues as to your next lead. Amerzone is a game that requires great concentration and has puzzles that would challenge the most competent gamer. As a complete game Amerzone is deceptively simple to begin with, but soon becomes extremely complex. This one's a thinker.

Surfing H3OWater sports haven't been among the most popular genres in recent years, but they can be great fun to play. What makes such games challenging to the developers is the ability to produce realistic waves that perform realistically. Nintendo managed to achieve great water physics with the production of Wave Race 64. Following suit, but this time with surfboards, is Rockstar with the first game of its...
Castrol Honda Superbike 2000What a great idea. Take one of the biggest motorcycle manufacturers in the world and get the licence to base a game around the most mouth-watering machine to come out of Japan in years (and yes, that includes PlayStation 2). That's what Castrol Honda VTR is all about - just the VTR, races full of 'em. For the bike fiends among us, it's a bit of a shame to discover there's no competition from other...
All Star Baseball 2002In European territories, Acclaim has a healthy reputation as a developer of a wide range of great games, not least sports titles. In the company's homeland of America, they are especially well known for Baseball games. Rarely do games of an American bent reach further than Japan, and when one hits the high street shelves of Britain, it's likely to go pretty much unnoticed. All Star Baseball 2002 i...

Tenchu: Wrath of HeavenCovert sneaking around and performing silent-but-deadly assassinations are all the rage in games these days - thanks, in part, to a number of PSX games in the 1990's that introduced the much-vaunted 'stealth' element. One such title was Tenchu - a ninja-based adventure that cast players into the dark side of feudal Japan. Now in its third instalment, the series finally reaches the PlayStation 2, i...
