Baldur's Gate : Dark Alliance, Sony Playstation
Role-playing games that follow the Dungeons and Dragons rules are typically the preserve of PC gamers, so when such a game is developed and designed exclusively for a next generation console, PC and console owners alike should take note. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for PlayStation 2 is one such game. You and your family have been driven from your farmland home and have to head off to seek refuge within the walls of Baldur's Gate. But prior to your arrival, thieves who claim to have journeyed from Baldur's Gate mug you for all you've got, but more importantly, kidnap your sister too. Your task is to find her and rescue her at all costs. And so began the tale of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. Developed by Black Isle Studios, the playing world of Dark Alliance has been rendered beautifully. Fully interactive light-sourced environments and a full complement of creepy crawlies and ultimate overlords all help to completely immerse the player in an all-new and classic role-playing game. Dark Alliance combines a variety of game genres including puzzle elements, but combat is perhaps the most prominent gameplay characteristic. You must master a series of weapons and learn new spells to defeat some truly cunning AI. Some encounters will see the enemy attacking in numbers, while others will see you facing a single deadly foe with tremendous brute force. So rest assured, you will be kept on guard throughout the entirety of the game's 30 or so levels. Players can also customise their characters to great detail, and can even specify how a character's experienced is used. Therefore, Dark Alliance's characters can be altered to suit any preferred role-playing style. Dark Alliance is the first of its kind on PlayStation 2 and sets the benchmark for other similar role-playing games to follow.

Pro Evolution Soccer 4Let's get this straight from the start. Konami make the best football games. Some of the club names may be a bit dodgy, the games' menus have been a bit of an ordeal to navigate in the past, and the referees offer more cards than Clinton at Xmas. EA may sell more of their FIFA games (across more platforms, remember?) and let's just not mention This is Appalling or Clubfoot Ball. There's no competi...
