Army Men: Lock 'N' Load, Sony Playstation
3DO's long running Army Men series has made many appearances on the six-year-old PlayStation. Though these games are all released under the Army Men banner, many of them are in fact quite different from each other in gameplay respects. Continuing the series with another combat-based instalment, Lock 'n' Load is the next variant in the seemingly unending series. This time around, the Tanned Army, previously only seen on land, sea or in the air, are rumoured to be conducting an underground war, taking place under the planet's oceans. Taking control of the Green Army once again, you must expose and defeat the Tanned Army by whatever means necessary. Before beginning a game of Lock 'n' Load, participating in the game's training mode is advised. Here, you will learn to use all weapons effectively, ranging from Uzis to grenades, as well as stealth tactics and combat vehicles, including tanks and motorcycles. Completing this area of the game helps to reduce the learning curve considerably. Beginning a full game initially places you slap-bang in the middle of a war, where you must immediately be on alert. Progress must be made with caution, since sand bags and barrels make perfect defences for the opposition. Gameplay is maximised even further with the option of a two-player mode. Battling against one another offers infinite replay value to Lock 'n' Load. As another page in 3DO's portfolio, Lock 'n' Load remains a good product that is comparable with the rest in the series. Stick a second controller into the PlayStation and you can have a cracking multi-player gaming experience.
