Disney's Treasure Planet, Sony Playstation
Bringing Robert Louis Stevenson's epic adventure onto console, Sony has released the futuristic Treasure Planet for PlayStation 2. Based on the Disney-produced blockbuster film of the same name, Treasure Planet pits players against myriad bloodthirsty pirates and mythical beasts as they travel from planet to planet in search of valuable treasures. Developed as a mix of several genres, including platform, puzzle and adventure, Treasure Planet takes some of the most exciting scenes from the Disney film and incorporates them into its very own compelling story. The game sees you controlling protagonist Jim Hawkins across a series of beautifully realised locations, inspired by familiar environments taken from the film, which include derelict mines and caverns on far-off planets. Armed with only a small phaser pistol and your own skills, you must evade and fight enemies with precision to succeed. But no adventure game would be complete without the obligatory sidekick who seems to get you even deeper in trouble before bailing you out at the last minute. In this case, you'll be accompanied by Morph, a mimic pet who can assume the form of just about any object he chooses that is of similar size. Treasure planet is a game that plays wonderfully in parts, and the PS2 visuals help considerably to immerse players into a highly believable game environment. As with so many games these days, the animation is smooth, textures look gorgeous and the narrative is intriguing, driving players forward continuously. Ever wanted to chat with Dr Doppler, BEN the robot or Captain Amelia and have a showdown with John Silver himself? Well, now's your chance.
