Six unique 'types' or 'makes' of surfboard and 10 beaches with varying tide and wave characteristics help to enhance the game's replayability, and it works very well. But the fun part of Sunny Garcia's Surfing is learning how to execute the game's 50+ special tricks. Individually, they're pretty simple: you simply combine several directional movements and button presses. But pulling them off on unpredictable wave formations is significantly trickier, and joining them together to form a high-scoring combination is sometimes just plain difficult. But it's compulsive. As frustrating as it is, you can't help but give it another go, and that's the sign of a good game. Add obstacles such as and sharks and jagged reefs, secret stages and multi-player competitions, and you've got one enjoyably challenging game.
