Blade 2, Sony Playstation
Having lost his mother to a vampire and subsequently carried its blood-sucking curse in his own veins, life was never going to be quite so straightforward and simple for Blade. The half-man, half-vampire star of the pages of Marvel comics and two major films has been hunting down vampires and vengefully slaying them ever since. Nothing's changed, evidently, as there's still plenty of battling with bloodsuckers to be done in the Playstation 2 version of Blade 2. Sequel to Blade, the game, and not actually based on the film of the same name, Blade 2's story revolves around the discovery of a plot to create an army of super-powerful vampires, known as Reapers. Only to be expected, protagonist Blade must rely on his supernatural powers and martial arts expertise to thwart any evil plans and lay all foes to waste. The game itself is based around a 360-degree, third person combat system, which sees players using hand-to-hand combat, as well as weapon attacks, to destroy hordes of vampires as they surround Blade in battle. This 'all-around' feature allows the player to see what's coming up behind them, so that they can react and attack before it's too late. During battles, players' half-vampire abilities give them access to some fairly extreme rage powers, such as shield, sword and strength. Primarily taking advantage of Blade's signature titanium-based, silver-plated sword, players also get to try out an array of high-tech weapons, including guns, grenades and stakes. The resulting on-screen action is rendered with some quite gruesome visual effects, like severed body parts and decaying corpses, which is probably why the law dictates that players have to be over 15 to buy it. So if you are, do it.

Crash Nitro KartSomething of a Mario Kart clone, 1999's Crash Team Racing was one of PlayStation's final major releases, appearing just a year before PS2 was released. It does look a little dated by today's standards, so Vicarious Visions came up with the bright idea to develop a karting sequel for PlayStation 2, ingeniously named Crash Nitro Kart.
